Web-Based Scripps Networking Installation

Welcome to Scripps College Information Technology's web-based networking installation site. From here you can install everything you need to get your computer set up with networking software.

Users who have older versions of the software will need to update it to the latest version. Please bookmark this page for reference.

Windows 8

There is currently no support for Windows 8 computers to connect to the network share or for printing. Please check back later in the semester for updated information.

If you have security settings on your computer you may receive additional questions about allowing or verifying that you want programs to run. Please accept these so it will continue with the installations.

Novell Netware Client
Allows access to your personal network storage folder on the Server. Students are given 3 Gb of space to store files and web pages.

GroupWise Email Client
The most convenient way to access your Scripps email, similar to Outlook or Outlook Express.

Novell iPrint Client
Allows access to our Web based network laser printers. IF you are using Vista or Windows 7 32-Bit and Internet Explorer then you just have to turn off Protected mode before installing. Otherwise use Firefox in Vista for the install.

If you have Vista or Windows 7 64bit Installation then you can install the Printer drivers using only IE and you still have to turn protected mode off.

Turn protected mode off: In lower right corner of IE, double click on Protected Mode On. Uncheck the box that says: Enable Protected Mode; Apply; OK. Restart IE, install iPrint and printers. Use the reverse process to re-enable Protected mode when finished.

After installing the iPrint client, the browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) MUST be closed and restarted in order to install the printers.

McAfee Virus Client
Note: Remove any other virus protection applications BEFORE installing.

Scripps College requires you to have and maintain antivirus software while you are enrolled with us. For students who do not already have antivirus software installed on their computers, Scripps provides McAfee AntiVirus software free of charge.

Macintosh

Support for OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
Mt. Lion - pre-installed on new Macs:
Information Technology has conducted limited but successful testing of our services with Mt. Lion. While it appears that there are still some potential compatibility issues, Scripps' basic file/print, e-mail, and anti-virus services are currently working as expected.

Java for Mountain Lion / Lion
Mac's with these operating systems do not come with Java by default. To get Java you can go to this web site and see what version you have if any. http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp If it says invalid plugin you click that link and install it. Then you click the invalid plugin link again and select ENABLE. Java is needed for a variety of web sites and applications, including autoconnect.claremont.edu and the GroupWise e-mail client, so we recommend this for all Mac users.

Software Updates
Scripps IT generally recommends installing the latest update to your version of OS X. As of late August the current versions are:

  • Mt. Lion: 10.8.2
  • Lion: 10.7.5
  • Snow Leopard: 10.6.8

GroupWise Email Client
Download the installer file to your computer (Installer); click on the Finder icon next to the downloaded file (looks like a magnifying glass) and drag the GroupWise icon to your Applications folder or the desktop. When you run the program for the first time the password box may pop up, type any key in the box and then hit the esc key and a window will pop up so you can enter more information. To keep the GroupWise icon in the dock for ease of use, press the Control key while clicking on the bouncing icon in the dock, & select Keep in Dock.

It may insert your Full name in the User ID box, you want to change this to your Email username and then continue typing in the rest of the information listed below.

McAfee Security Client
Download the McAfee Security program to your computer and follow the installation prompts. Note: Remove any other virus protection applications before installing.

OS X HP Driver file
If necessary, download and install this to your Mac; it has updated printer drivers for HP printers. It will create an icon on your desktop, double click on it to expand it and then follow the screens to install the HP files. When done, quit the program and then continue to the instructions for installing printers.
